No matter if you're a part time eBay seller listing a few auctions per month, or selling on eBay on a full time basis listing thousands of listings per month, one of the most important aspects of developing your online auction business is the use of automation.
Automation is absolutely essential to successful eBay selling because it frees you up to grow your business instead of spending your time running it. Would you rather spend your time doing money making activities or sending email to winning bidders to tell them you received their payment or to leave them feedback?
If you do a lot of selling on eBay, you need to have a good auction management system that will automate your emails. Most good ones do this. With an auction management service you can set up automated email templates to be sent to your customer at certain times. I have over 12 different auto-response email messages set up in my auction management service for various situations.
Now, here's the catch! Most eBay sellers who do use an auction management service make a BIG mistake when they don't automate their strategies beyond an auction management service (or at all for that matter)! They end up leaving the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
What do I mean?
If you're going to sell on eBay, remember this key piece of eBay selling advice:
Building your list is one of the top (if not THE top) eBay selling secrets and automation is the key to doing this. We'll, here are some eBay selling tips, techniques and strategies that not a lot of auction sellers are using! I'm going to show you right now how to build your opt in list using automation tactics that even very few top eBay sellers are using or even know about!
This is a technique that kills four birds with one stone!
1. You get paid. 2. Your customer receives an immediate response back within seconds after they've paid which says you've received their payment and tells them when their item will ship. (This is for customers who pay by Paypal and the speed of which they receive your information depends on how fast Paypal forwards the payment email notification that is sent. Usually, it's within seconds, but sometimes Paypal can be a little slow sending out email.) 3. You have provided lightning speed customer service and you told the customer everything they needed to know about their purchase and you didn't even lift a finger to type an email! 4. You have just now added another path to put that customer on your opt in list and you look like a hero in their eyes because now you're going to automatically follow up with them in so many days without typing an email! |
This is extremely powerful! I can't recall one time after I purchased an item that the eBay seller followed up with me after the purchase! It rarely happens! Most eBay sellers make the sell, get their money and then go on to the next auction and basically don't want to bother with any post sale follow up unless it's to leave feedback!
That is a BIG eBay selling mistake! Let me explain:
Always remember the golden rule... You are HELPING your customer! You're showing them that you CARE for them! You are showing them that CUSTOMER SERVICE is your motto! You are establishing the lifetime value of your customer here. You worked hard to get them to be a customer and you don't want to let them go after a 1 time sale.
Do you think they will come back and check out your eBay listings or other online auctions again if they receive this type of service from you and they feel like you care about them?
Simply put, this eBay selling strategy and technique alone will go a very long way to set yourself apart from your competition. Here's how to set this up:
First, you need to get a good and reliable auto-responder service.
One that you can count on and trust. One of the most recognized leaders in auto-responders out there is GetResponse. This is the autoresponder I use and highly recommend!
Getresponse has a free and a paid version. The free version is limited so I recommend you get the paid version if you already sell a lot. If you're just starting out, then use the free version but you'll want to upgrade as soon as you can.
Why? Because for the price you pay for the service, which isn't much, compared to the increase you're going to have with your business from using this technique, it's well worth the investment!
Remember, this is a large part of your business foundation! You wouldn't skimp on the foundation of your house would you? This is a key part of your business and you don't want to skimp on it! You can't have an unreliable auto-responder service or you'll be shooting yourself in the foot. You are only as strong as your weakest link and you don't want this link to be weak.
After you read this, sign up for your GetResponse account.
Then you're going to set up an autoresponder that is specifically set up to take payments. For example: you'll call it payments@getresponse.com
You'll set this payment address up in your eBay auction, auction management service and more importantly, in Paypal as the address to take payment at.
You'll make an automated message in GetResponse that tells your customer you received their payment and when their item will ship.
When a bidder pays for their auction through Paypal, Paypal will send the payment notification to your auto-responder at your GetResponse address, which in turn will reply with the auto-responder message you created with the payment and shipping information to your customer!
You'll also need to have a copy of your payment notification from Paypal that was sent to your GetResponse address forwarded to another email account so you know you received a payment! All this and you haven't lifted a finger!
Pretty cool huh?
Second, now one step further...
You also need to make an automated follow up email and program that email to go to the customer in however many days you choose.
You'll tell the customer in the payment notification email that in so many days you're going to follow up with them. Make sure you tell them that if they don't want to be contacted, just click the remove link and you won't contact them.
Now here is a key part in the process. Not only are you providing lightning speed follow up, but the customer is happy, you've provided them with all the information they need to know and you haven't lifted a finger to do a thing and you look like a hero!
BUT! Here's a word of caution! Here's where you can still blow it! Here's why: Because in every contact with the customer, you want to present your business, up-sell additional products to them, have an offer to join your mini course, newsletter, report or to visit your website or whatever you may have! If you don't, you have blown it!
Make sure you always offer those things when in contact with your customer. BUT... do it where you are NOT selling your customer, but helping them! That is important to understand!
In the follow up email itself, you can do several things. You can invite them to join your newsletter subscription on your other GetResponse account (you can have as many accounts as you want with GetResponse for no charge), you can tell them you'll continue to contact them to send special promotions on your auction items and so forth! The possibilities are endless. Just make sure you have their permission to do so and make sure you don't spam them. Make sure you always tell them they can unsubscribe if they don't want any further information, or tell them to subscribe to another mailing list by clicking a link in the follow up email.
This is not "cookie-cutter". Tailor it to suite your needs! Whatever ideas you come up with that fit into what you're doing, you can incorporate them right here! This is a key eBay selling strategy to successful selling on ebay and making money selling on ebay.
This is why most eBay sellers who ONLY use auction management automated emails are shooting themselves in the foot!
Third, now, even another step further...
In the follow up, have your customer give you feedback on what they want to learn specifically about as it concerns your niche market. Take their feedback and use it to build your business. Can you provide them at a later time a product that will answer their problems? Ask yourself those types of questions, it will take you far! You may want to also provide them a special bonus for sending you their feedback as incentive to tell you what they want! This is vitally important! Get the feedback for what you're market wants!
Why? Because you're finding a product that your niche market wants and would buy. You're getting them to tell you without you having to do any extra work! You're leveraging every ounce of technology you have available and making the most of every effort you make.
Now can you see the power of using automation to sell on eBay and why it's so critically important?
You have done all of this without lifting a finger and now you have valuable information to grow your business!
If you use an auction management service, make sure you do the same in every email. Invite people to join your mailing list, newsletter, mini course, or to share whatever else you have to offer. You will need to give them an incentive such as a free bonus for doing so.
No matter if you're a seasoned eBay seller, or just learning how to sell on eBay, you MUST incorporate this eBay selling strategy regardless of if you're a part time or full time auction seller. You will see the rewards by doing so!
